Perth removalist rates range from $90 to $200 an hour. But the hourly rate is not what matters. Here is what you will actually pay, what changes it, and how a cheaper quote often costs more.
If you have spent five minutes searching Google for Perth removalist prices, you have seen numbers ranging from $75 to $200 per hour. That range is wide enough to be completely useless.
The real question is not what the rate is. It is what the rate includes, how long the crew will actually take, and whether the final bill will match the initial quote.
We have been moving furniture across Perth for over four years, and the pricing questions we get are almost always the same. Here is a straight answer.
Most Perth removalists fall into three rough brackets. The rate tells you something about what to expect, but not everything.
This is usually a single operator with a van or a small independent crew running a ute and a trailer. For a single heavy item, a fridge, a couch, or a few boxes, this can work fine. For a full house worth of furniture, the lower rate often comes with slower workers, less equipment, and no insurance. The bill looks cheap until the job drags on for twice as long as a professional crew would take.
This is where most established Perth removalists sit, including us. You get two experienced movers, a properly sized truck with a lift gate, blankets and straps included in the rate, and transit insurance as standard. A two bedroom apartment move in this bracket takes about three to four hours and costs $360 to $600 total. A full three bedroom house takes four to six hours and costs $480 to $900.
At the top end, you are paying for larger companies with higher overheads, three person crews, or specialist services. Tommy's Transport charges from $160 per hour, and Smooth Movers lists $160 per hour excluding GST. These crews are generally professional and well equipped, but you are paying a premium for the brand name.
A couple in Yokine paid $480 for their apartment move at our standard $120 per hour rate. Four hours, two crew, everything pre packed and ready at the door. They had been quoted $760 by a company charging $190 per hour for the same job. Same furniture, same distance, same number of crew members. The only difference was the bill.
An hourly rate is only useful if you also know how fast the crew works. A team charging $90 per hour that takes eight hours to move a three bedroom house costs you $720. A team charging $140 per hour that finishes the same job in four hours costs you $560.
The difference comes down to experience, equipment, and preparation. A professional crew arrives with a truck big enough to take everything in one load. They bring blankets, straps, trolleys, and floor runners. They know how to angle a couch through a doorway without taking the door off. All of that saves time, and time is what you pay for.
If the crew shows up without blankets and has to wrap your furniture in old towels, or they make three trips because the truck is too small, or they spend twenty minutes figuring out how to get a fridge through the front door, the lower hourly rate evaporates quickly.
Your quoted rate might be $120 per hour, but several things can push the total bill up or down depending on how the job actually unfolds.
If everything is packed, boxes are labelled, beds are disassembled, and the driveway is clear, the job goes fast. If the crew has to wait while you finish packing the kitchen or take apart a wardrobe, you pay for that waiting time.
A ground floor apartment with direct street access is fast. A second floor walk up with a narrow staircase is slow. A two storey house with a grand staircase and heavy timber furniture upstairs is slower still. If the truck cannot park within 20 metres of the door, the crew spends more time walking and less time actually moving.
Saturday moves are in high demand and some removalists charge more for them. Tuesday or Wednesday moves are usually cheaper and easier to book. If your schedule is flexible, a midweek move saves you money.
Some quotes exclude GST. Always ask whether the rate includes it. Also ask about fuel surcharges, call out fees, and whether basic equipment like blankets and straps is included. A $110 per hour quote that adds $20 for GST, a $50 call out fee, and $30 for blankets is actually costing you more than a straight $140 per hour all inclusive rate.
Get at least three quotes and do not compare just the hourly number. Compare what is included. A professional quote should tell you how many crew members, what size truck, what equipment comes standard, whether GST is included, whether there is a weekend surcharge, what the insurance covers, and what happens if the job runs over the estimated time.
Ask each company the same questions so the comparison is fair. If one quote is significantly lower than the others, ask why. A genuine lower rate from a smaller operator who is hungry for work is different from a low rate that hides poor equipment, no insurance, or slow inexperienced workers.

She would have been paying $85 an hour for one guy with a ute to move a three bedroom house. That is not a bargain. That is a disaster waiting to happen.
Based on what we see across hundreds of Perth moves, here are realistic budgets for standard furniture removals with a two person crew at a mid range professional rate.
Two to three hours. Budget $240 to $450. A tightly packed studio move can finish in under two hours if everything is pre packed and access is easy.
Three to four hours. Budget $360 to $600. This is the most common move we do. Most finish in about three and a half hours when the customer has packed and prepared properly.
Four to six hours. Budget $480 to $900. Larger homes with more furniture and heavier pieces land at the upper end. If there are stairs, add an hour.
Six to eight hours. Budget $720 to $1,200. Homes this size usually justify a third crew member to speed things up.
These are real numbers from actual Perth moves. They assume the furniture is pre packed, beds are disassembled, and access is straightforward. Stairs, long carries, and unprepared houses push the numbers up.
