The final bill often looks nothing like the opening quote once the job drags on longer than it should.

At the top end you are typically paying for larger companies with higher overheads, three-person crews, or specialist equipment for complicated moves. Our three-person crew rate is $160 per hour plus GST. These crews are well equipped, but the premium is real and not always necessary for a standard residential job.
An hourly rate only makes sense when you also know how long the job will actually take.
A crew charging $100 per hour that takes eight hours to move a three-bedroom house costs $800. A crew charging $132 per hour that finishes the same job in five hours costs $660. The cheaper rate produced the more expensive bill.
The difference comes down to experience, truck size, and equipment. A professional crew arrives with a truck large enough to take your furniture in one load. They bring blankets and straps so nothing needs to be rewrapped mid-job. They know how to angle a wardrobe through a doorway without stopping to work it out on the spot. All of that saves time, and time is what your bill is built on.
The table below uses our standard rate of $132 per hour GST included for two movers and a truck. These are realistic estimates based on jobs we do in Perth, assuming furniture is pre-packed, beds are disassembled before we arrive, and access is straightforward.
Studio or 1-bedroom apartment: 2 to 3 hours, $264 to $396
2-bedroom home or apartment: 3 to 5 hours, $396 to $660
3-bedroom home: 5 to 7 hours, $660 to $924
4-bedroom home: 7 to 9 hours, $924 to $1,188
These are starting estimates. Stairs, long carries, heavy items, and how prepared the house is on the day all push the time up or down. Stairs also attract a flat surcharge of $60 per flight at either address, on top of the hourly rate.
A customer in Yokine hired us to move a two-bedroom apartment. The job took four hours at our standard rate and came to $528 all up. She had packed everything herself, beds were already taken apart, and the driveway had good access. That is what a straightforward job looks like when the customer is well prepared.
Your rate stays the same. What changes is how long the job takes, and that comes down to a handful of real variables.
This is the biggest one. If every box is packed and labelled, furniture is ready to move, and beds are already disassembled, we work fast. If the crew has to wait while you finish packing the kitchen, or spend time dismantling a wardrobe that could have been done the night before, that waiting time goes on the clock.
A half-hour delay at the start of a move adds $66 to the bill at our rate. It is the easiest cost to avoid.
A ground floor house with a flat driveway and direct street access is the fastest job we do. A second-floor apartment with a narrow staircase, no lift, and no parking within 20 metres is a different story entirely.
Stairs are charged at $60 per flight as a flat fee on top of the hourly rate. One flight is $60, two flights is $120, three or more is $180. This applies at either the pickup or delivery address. On top of the flat fee, every trip up with a heavy piece of furniture takes longer than a flat carry. If the truck cannot get close to the door, the crew is covering more distance per load. A two-bedroom apartment with two flights of stairs and difficult parking can add an hour or more compared to easy ground-floor access, plus $120 in stair fees.
Weekday moves from Monday to Friday are the base rate with a two-hour minimum. Saturday moves have a three-hour minimum at $132 per hour GST included. Sunday and public holiday moves are $140 per hour plus GST with a four-hour minimum. December and January are the busiest months in Perth. If you are moving during that period, book early and expect less flexibility on timing.
Some Perth removalists quote excluding GST. That adds 10% to every figure. Always confirm whether the rate you are being quoted is GST-inclusive before you compare quotes side by side.
Also ask: does the rate include blankets and straps, or are those extra? Is there a call-out or travel fee on top? What is the minimum booking time? What is the stair surcharge? A rate that looks competitive on paper can end up costing more than a higher all-inclusive rate for the same job once the extras land on the invoice.
Most Perth removalists charge hourly for local moves. Fixed-price quotes are more common for interstate jobs or large, clearly-scoped moves where the removalist can walk through the property beforehand.

Call-out or travel fee: Some Perth operators charge a flat fee to cover the drive from their depot to your home. This is standard practice, not a red flag, as long as it is disclosed upfront. Minimum booking time: A two-hour minimum on weekdays and a three-hour minimum on Saturdays is standard. A job that takes 90 minutes still costs two hours.
Stairs surcharge. Not every removalist charges a flat stair fee, but at $60 per flight it is a meaningful addition on a job with multiple flights. Always ask upfront so it is in your quote, not a surprise on the invoice.
