PERTH PIANO REMOVAL COSTS 2026
What Piano Removal Costs in Perth
Perth piano removal costs vary based on the type of piano, the access at both ends, and whether stairs are involved. Our pricing starts from $150 and is confirmed after we understand the full job. Piano moves are not a situation where a flat rate makes sense without knowing the instrument, the access, and the stairs.
Upright Piano (Metro Perth)
Standard upright pianos in the Perth metro area generally run $180 to $380. The main variables are access width, floor type, and whether stairs are involved.
Baby Grand or Grand Piano (Metro Perth)
Baby grand and grand pianos require partial disassembly and run $300 to $800 or more depending on access and crew time required. Curved or spiral staircases need a site assessment before booking is confirmed.
Stair Surcharge
Stairs typically add $50 to $150 per flight depending on configuration, stairwell width, and whether the stairs are straight, curved, or spiral. This is confirmed at the quote stage after you describe the access.
What's included: pre-move access assessment, specialist piano dolly and padded skid board, hydraulic tail-lift for loading, extra-thick quilted moving blankets, ratchet straps and load-rated harnesses, full reassembly of grand piano legs and components at destination.
What's extra: stair surcharge (per flight, confirmed at quote stage), interstate piano moves (quoted individually), post-move piano tuning (needs a piano technician — we can advise timing).

OUR PROCESS
How We Move a Piano
Every piano job starts the same way: we assess the instrument, the access at both ends, and the route between them before anything gets loaded. Before we confirm the booking, we ask whether your table has a one-piece or three-piece slate and whether there are stairs or tight corners at either property.
Wrapping and Protection
The piano gets wrapped in extra-thick quilted moving blankets before it moves an inch. For polished finishes, this is the first line of defence against scratches and marks from loading through to placement at the destination.
Loading the Instrument
Upright pianos are moved intact onto a wide-deck piano dolly with soft rubber wheels. Grand and baby grand pianos have the lyre, music rack, top lid, and legs removed first, then the body is lowered onto a padded skid board and strapped securely for sideways transport.
Stairs
We use mechanical stair-climbing equipment where the stairwell allows. In tighter spaces, lifting harnesses shift the weight from hands onto legs and shoulders. The heavier end of the piano always faces downhill. We need to know the stair count and whether they are straight, curved, or spiral before confirming the approach.
Reassembly and Placement
At the destination, grand piano legs go back on and the instrument is returned to playing position. We are not piano technicians, so tuning after the move is a job for a specialist. Most pianos need to settle in their new room for two to three weeks before tuning anyway.
TYPES OF PIANOS WE MOVE
Upright, Baby Grand, and Grand Pianos
We move all three types across Perth metro and interstate. The size and type of the piano shapes the approach, the crew size, and the time on the day.
- Upright pianos: moved intact on a piano dolly. Main variables are access width, floor type, and stairs. Most common job type.
- Baby grand pianos: partial disassembly required. Legs and lid come off, body travels on its side on a skid board. More crew time than an upright, particularly if access is tight.
- Grand pianos: the most involved move. Full partial disassembly, skid board transport, more crew required. Curved staircases and narrow doorways need a site assessment before booking is confirmed.

WHY IT GOES WRONG
What Happens When a Piano Is Moved Without the Right Equipment
The most common mistake is trying to move the piano on its own wheels. Those small metal casters are not designed for transport. They snap off, gouge floors, and do nothing to prevent a back-heavy upright from tipping. The second most common issue is lifting from the wrong points: upright front legs are not structural and will fail under load. A piano moved incorrectly causes damage to the instrument, the property, and the people involved.
- Never move a piano on its own casters — they are not transport wheels.
- Never lift an upright by its front legs or lid handles — they are not structural.
- Upright pianos are top-heavy and back-heavy. Tilting back on a ramp shifts the centre of gravity instantly and causes the piano to tip.
- A loosely tied piano shifting in a truck damages internal mechanics and can punch through the truck wall.
